One of the most popular exhibitions, the Crisps Youth Art Prize is an annual exhibition that showcases art from Granite Belt youth.

This year’s theme is ‘Insects’.

Insects display remarkable beauty through incredible diversity, vibrant colours, and intricate, specialized adaptations. From the iridescent scales of butterfly wings and the brilliant colours of beetles to the precise camouflage of leaf insects. They are essential, functional, and “tiny treasures” that offer fascinating artistic patterns, from their movements to their physical structures.

Insects are crucial to life on Earth, acting as primary pollinators for flowers and crops (80% of wild plants), decomposing waste to maintain soil fertility, and serving as a fundamental food source for wildlife. They drive ecosystem health through pollination, seed dispersal, and nutrient cycling.

Almost any type of light-themed art is exhibited; this includes paintings, photographs & mixed media.

And because no two nights in the sky are ever quite the same, every Starlight & Vines experience has its own little moment of magic.

You don’t need to know anything about astronomy. Bryan keeps things relaxed and easy to follow, so whether you’re already a bit of a star nerd or just curious about what’s up there, you’ll feel right at home. There’s time to sit back, have a drink, ask questions, have a chat and enjoy being outside without having anywhere else to be.

Once you start looking up, you might be surprised by just how much there is to see!

Queensland artists Kate Beard and Karina Devine have a long friendship forged through a shared love of art and small-town life. Careers have meant that the friends no longer live in Miles, nor in the same town, but their commitment to their art practice, and their friendship, has not diminished. Recent works by both artists identified a strong underlying narrative theme that clearly align as each artist interprets life’s twists and turns in richly layered and vibrantly coloured paintings.
Kate Beard’s vibrant acrylics transform personal memories into vivid visual narratives. Karina Devine’s mixed media works weave joyful experiences of home and connections into intricate, detailed pieces. Both artist’s paintings are underscored with storytelling, with their work reflecting life’s beauty and lessons.

Though stylistically different, the foundations of their work are formulaic and embedded with uniquely identifiable techniques such as Kate’s built-up layers of richly coloured glazes and Karina’s juxtaposition of collaged hand painted papers with overlayed detail. Both artists regularly participate in group exhibitions, but it has been many years since they have collaborated on an exhibition together.

The Warwick Pentathrun is a weekend event held at the end of May each year. It comprises five races, each of which is a different “type” of race, which means a competitor has completed a Marathon Distance over the weekend in five different events.

Starting with a half marathon Saturday morning, followed by breakfast and a bus back to the start (yes, it is one of the rare race events where you get to run somewhere and not just in a circuit), then after a short rest, a 4.6km X-Country.

The Saturday concludes with a 5km flat fast road race followed by presentations.

Sunday is an early start for a 10km hill descent / ascent at Queen Mary Falls, Killarney, finishing again with complimentary breakfast, and the weekend concludes with a 1600-meter “sprint” race at the Warwick racecourse.

The Historic Leyburn Sprints is an annual motorsports event featuring historic, classic and modern-day performance cars run on the closed streets of Leyburn on the Queensland Southern Downs. The Sprints celebrates Leyburn’s hosting of the 1949 Australian Grand Prix on a nearby ex-wartime airstrip. 2026 celebrated the 30th anniversary of the community-run Sprints, which has been twice awarded Queensland Motorsport Event of the Year and now is one of Australia’s premier historic motorsports festivals and Queensland’s biggest annual motorsport event after Supercars. The Historic. Ldeyburn Sprints features many off-track attractions as well as the competition for around 240 cars. Other attractions include a Vintage Van display, Show ‘n’ Shine, Motorsport alley display, country markets, fun-run, charity auction and live music.

Warwick Art Gallery is calling on the Southern Downs’ creative community to step into the spotlight, for the much-loved pARTicipate Local Artist Exhibition.

The biennial Main Gallery exhibition celebrates the remarkable depth of artistic talent across the Southern Downs and provides artists aged 18 years and over with the opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional public gallery environment.

Artists are invited to submit original works in seven categories: painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, sculpture and mixed media.

Whether an artist is exhibiting for the first time or has an established creative practice, pARTicipate is designed to encourage and celebrate local creativity while providing valuable exposure to collectors, visitors and the wider community.

This year’s exhibition continues to honour the memory of Warwick Art Gallery’s long-serving committee member and Chairman, Jason Gard, through the Jason Gard Emerging Artist Award. Established in 2024, the award recognises promising local artists at the beginning of their creative journey and reflects Jason’s longstanding commitment to supporting the arts within the Southern Downs.

Do you want to learn night photography to capture the beautiful Milky Way? Join multi-award-winning photographer David Magro for a night under the stars!

Beginners and enthusiasts are welcome. The Masterclass is held in a classroom before going out into the night to photograph the stars. You will leave with beautiful photographs.

Most cameras can photograph the Milky Way and galaxies. Borrow one of my cameras on the night.

Masterclass details will be provided upon booking. Our Masterclass venue is the Warwick RSL, and our amazing nearby dark sky photography location will be at Leslie Dam 20 minutes away, directions will be provided on the night.

During this Masterclass, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to photograph the Milky Way and the night sky. You will also gain insights into composing your photographs in low-light conditions and discover techniques to produce clear, noise-free images. Additionally, you will explore the art of seamlessly capturing breathtaking panoramas and acquire valuable knowledge for planning your future night photography sessions. Furthermore, the Masterclass will cover mastering effective editing techniques using the Milky Way Masterclass Suite.

Parish Rector, the Venerable Lizzie Gaitskell, said the festival was a beautiful way to acknowledge and celebrate the strength of the community and its care agencies.

“Through the symbolism of Christmas trees and the delight they bring to people across the season, community organisations are welcomed to celebrate and showcase their heart and soul through the beauty of a Christmas Tree and its decorations,” Rev Lizzie said.

The trees will be displayed in Warwick’s St Mark’s Anglican Church and open for public viewing each evening, with a gold coin donation for entry (donated to the People’s Choice winner) and don’t forget to vote for “The People’s Choice” Tree.

Ven. Lizzie was also enthusiastic about the pop-up Twilight Christmas Gift Market being held on the Thursday in the church grounds.

Allora Mountain Flora and Fauna Reserve

Allora Mountain Flora and Fauna Reserve is a flat-topped mesa occupying 210 hectares one kilometre to the east of the township of Allora on the Southern Downs of Queensland, Australia. Access is from the New England Highway via Burges Road. A wooden post- and- rail entrance with appropriate signage leads up to a picnic area. Well-defined paths lead from there to the top of the mountain.

The mountain has been an integral part of the Allora community and its social and educational fabric for over a century. It is considered an area of significance and worthy of promotion for its conservation and cultural values. Many groups, including the local schools, use the Reserve as a place for excursions. It offers unparalleled views of the town and surrounds, and is home to diverse species of flora and fauna. Native species that occur on the Reserve include Mountain Coolibah (Eucalyptus orgadophila), Kurrajong ( Brachychiton) , Gumbi Gumbi (Pittosporum) and Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis). The grasses on the Reserve are mostly Native Blue Grass and couch. Koala, nesting Wedgetail Eagles and wallaby are in residence and over 120 species of birds have been identified on the Reserve. Eighty birds are featured in a full-colour book which is available for purchase from Allora Landcare Group. Indigenous artefacts are evident, including ‘ring trees’, ‘scar trees’, bora rings and geological items such as grinding stones and knives.

Allora Landcare Group Inc (ALG) has instituted a number of projects on the Reserve over many years. These include flora and fauna surveys, weed control, monitoring the health of the Reserve, investigating the cultural history of the Reserve and creating walking tracks, a picnic area and Information Shelter for public use.

Horsepower Hilton offers quality self contained cabins 600 m from Morgan Park Sporting Complex. We have 6 detached cabins with their own toilets, bathrooms, lock up car garages and covered horse yards to cater for all horsepower enthusiasts. There is also heaps of room for large vehicles like trucks and horse floats.

Cabins are mostly open plan with a queen bed and a set of single bunks and can sleep 4 adults comfortably.

All have reverse cycle air conditioning and there is a laundry with a washing machine, dryer and washing powder free for all guests to use. Guests like to sit on the veranda and have a beverage whilst enjoying the native wildlife that call the property home.

There is a fire pit and 2 BBQs for guests to use when staying. Horsepower Hilton is 10 minutes from Warwick’s CBD and 2 hours from Brisbane.

Eco-friendly boutique accommodation in the heart of Queensland wine country. Five minutes from Stanthorpe township, and just down the road from several of the region’s premier wineries (including Savina Lane and Whiskey Gully).

We are a B&B style accommodation featuring two luxury queen bedrooms with ensuites for our guests. There is also a well-appointed shared kitchen area, complete with microwave, gas cooktop and a wood oven. The area is stocked with all the necessary requirements for guests to enjoy anything from a cup of coffee to a fully prepared meal.

Self-serve breakfast is included in the cost of accommodation, including everything from cereal and locally sourced seasonal fruit to bacon, farm fresh eggs, bread, juice and milk. Guests are welcome to use the fully equipped kitchen to prepare and cook their own meals. The kitchen also contains a coffee pod machine, toaster and fridge.

We also provide guests with access to an outdoor BBQ, free wifi, and a television in each bedroom (including Netflix).
