Apple orchard at The Summit

Northern Granite Belt Villages

Explore the string of villages north of Stanthorpe, including Dalveen, Thulimbah, The Summit and Applethorpe.

Travelling south from Warwick to Stanthorpe on the New England Highway, you will drive through the northern villages of the Granite Belt, including Dalveen, Thulimbah, The Summit and Applethorpe. The area features wineries, apple and stone fruit orchards, farming land, artisan food producers, restaurant menus championing local produce and plenty of picture perfect views.

Things to do

  • Snap a selfie with Thulimbah’s Big Apple! Did you know the Granite Belt grows 100% of Queensland’s apples every year?
  • Taste wines at a number of cellar doors dotted throughout the northern Granite Belt including Heritage Estate Wines, Robert Channon Wines, Boireann Wines, Summit Estate Wines and Ravens Croft Wines. Liquor lovers should head to Castle Glen for a tasting.
  • Head to Sutton’s Juice Factory to enjoy an iconic Granite Belt treat – their famous apple pie.
  • Go orienteering, bouldering or mountain biking in Passchendaele State Forest, or fossicking in the forest’s Swiper’s Gully Fossicking Reserve
  • Sample hand-made artisan cheeses at Stanthorpe Cheese.
  • Let the kids go wild exploring the granite boulders at Donnelly’s Castle, near Pozieres. The 200m walk to the top promises breathtaking views.
  • Join a Orchard Experience tour to hear the story of apple production from the farmer.
  • Buy local produce direct from local suppliers like Sam’s Farm Fresh Fruit & Veg at Cottonvale or from roadside farm stalls.
  • Take the family to the Granite Belt Christmas Farm, where the festive spirit is alive all year round and reindeer available to hand-feed.
  • Get lost at the Granite Belt Maze at The Summit – perfect for all ages.
  • Step back in time with a visit to the Amiens Legacy Centre.
