Do you have an appetite for adventure and a craving for country-grown goodness?

Welcome to the Southern Downs and Granite Belt, where the grass really is greener, the apples crispier and the honey sweeter. From farm gates to café plates, this region is a foodie’s fantasy, dishing up everything from organic eggs to honey, pork and beef.

Buy fresh from the farm

Ashbern Farms

Ashbern Farms, Stanthorpe – From October to May, Ashbern Farms throws open its farm gates to the public to experience the joy of picking fresh strawberries straight from the patch. Grab a punnet, your friends and a hat for the sweetest day out.

Specialty: Plump fresh strawberries, plus strawberry milkshakes from the Farm Shop

Condamine Apiaries, Wheatvale – Stop by Condamine Apiaries and you’ll find raw honey so pure it practically glows. Their honesty box roadside stall is open for self-serve sweetness – just bring cash and maybe a napkin for sticky fingers.

Specialty: Raw honey and beeswax, straight from hardworking local hives

Suttons Juice Factory and Cidery

Suttons Juice Factory and Cidery, Thulimbah – Located in an old, converted packing shed next to the orchard is the Sutton’s café selling fruit and vegetables grown on site and from the Granite Belt, plus old family recipes of farmhouse-style meals and snacks including their famous apple pies. Pick up a bottle of their honest-to-goodness apple juice or apple cider.

Specialty: Famous apple pie, made with Sutton’s apples

Pit stop at produce markets

Granite Belt Farmers Market, Stanthorpe – Buy direct from the farmer at the Granite Belt Farmers Markets. With everything from fresh local produce, artisanal foods and handmade goods, the atmosphere is welcoming with friendly vendors eager to share the stories behind their products. Granite Belt Farmers Market is held every Saturday 7:30am-12pm.

Specialty: Fresh produce from across the region

Warwick Farmers Market, Warwick – If you love supporting local, then the Warwick Farmers Market is not to be missed with a mix of fresh produce and handmade products on offer. Bring an esky and stock up on fruit, vegetables, meats, cheese and eggs, plus a great range of local leathergoods, candles, toys and jewellery. Warwick Farmers Market is held every Saturday 7am-12pm.

Stanthorpe Cheese

Stanthorpe Cheese, Thulimbah  – Queensland’s highest and coldest cheese shop, Stanthorpe Cheese, turns local milk into melt-in-your-mouth masterpieces. Whether you love a sharp cheddar or a soft brie, this dairy farm, cheese shop, and café delivers the goods (via their online store if you can’t make it in person).

Specialty: Locally-made artisan cheeses

Echo Valley Farm, Goomburra – Echo Valley Farm’s regenerative farming practices produce quality eggs, pork, beef, and seasonal veggies. Their produce is good for you, great for the planet, and full of fresh flavour. The team deliver to multiple delis across Brisbane or straight to your door for the ultimate convenience.

Specialty: Pasture-raised eggs, pork, beef, and vegetables

Dine with farm-to-table ingredients

Bluebird Kitchen and Smokehouse

Bluebird Kitchen and Smokehouse, Warwick – Using locally sourced meats and produce, Bluebird Kitchen and Smokehouse is making waves at national and international barbecue competitions for their American-style slow cooked briskets, wings and burgers. This relaxed eatery offers dine-in or takeaway, so you can enjoy your taste of the Southern Downs each way.

Specialty: Don’t miss the brisket

Little Gallery Café, Warwick – Located in the hub of central Warwick, Little Gallery Café is a classic country café celebrating the finest locally grown produce. Pop in for a shop at their giftware and art gallery and then head next door for everything from healthy salads, homemade cakes or hearty meals.

Jamworks Gourmet Foods

Jamworks Gourmet Foods, Glen Aplin – You’ll relish (pun intended) your visit to Jamworks Gourmet Foods for months to come as you leave inspired by all the wonderful ways local ingredients can be mastered. With over 80 gourmet jams, relishes, chutneys, sauces and pastes, you can enjoy a taste of the Southern Downs at their on-site café and in your own home. Their fully licenced café serves breakfast, lunch and light meals including their trademark scones.
