4 Cool Events for an Epic Winter Weekend

The Southern Downs and Granite Belt may have cooled down, but our July calendar is hot with a range of events giving you plenty of reasons to jump in the car and explore our backyard!

Want to tackle 4 big events in the one weekend? Kill four birds with 1 stone on the weekend of 1-2 July, when a bumper weekend of events hits the Southern Downs including Snowflakes in Stanthorpe, the Queensland Road Teams Series cycling event, the Historic Racing Car Club of Queensland meet and a free outdoor theatre production of Astronomical.

Snowflakes in Stanthorpe | 30 June – 2 July

The Snowflakes in Stanthorpe winter festival takes place over three winter themed magical days every second year. The whole family will be kept busy with snowfields, ice skating, snow globes, a petting zoo, and local winter markets. www.snowflakesinstanthorpe.com.au. Queensland Road Team Series | 1-2 July

On 1-2 July Warwick and Yangan will host the annual Queensland Road Team Series, bringing the best of the State’s cycling teams to race through the Darling Downs. For the first time, you are invited to join us in a community benefit ride for amateurs to challenge yourself on the professional courses! Who can participate? Anyone who can ride a bike, owns a helmet, and can maintain speeds of 25kmph. Visit www.qrts.com.au

Historic Queensland Motor Race Meeting | 1-2 July

The Historic Racing Car Club of Queensland presents the 40th annual HISTORIC QUEENSLAND MOTOR RACE MEETING at Warwick’s Morgan Park Raceway from 1-2 July 2017. Get ready for 2 full days of on track action with sports and racing cars from the 1920s to 1980s! There will be formula cars, pre-’60 cars, sports cars, touring cars and sports sedans. The Queensland Tourist Trophy for Sports Car and the HRCC Trophy for Historic Racing Cars will be awarded. Visit www.hrcc.org.au. Image by Ian Welsh.

Astronomical theatre production | 1-2 July

Grab the kids, a picnic blanket and a coat for this free, new production in both Warwick (1 July) and Stanthorpe (2 July). The Townsville Astronomy Group and Full Throttle Theatre have teamed up to bring what is believed to be a world first tour during the 2017 winter. Astronomical not only delivers belly laughs as it explores the Universe, but the audience participates by looking at the various astronomical wonders through large computer controlled telescopes. This is a free event in both Warwick (1 July) and Stanthorpe (2 July). Visit www.fullthrottletheatre.com.au

These four events are just the start of the epic winter weekend you can enjoy on the Southern Downs and Granite Belt! Check out the full list of all the events happening in the region, as well as the other exciting attractions we have to offer. Share with your mates and start planning your 1-2 July weekend!
