Nicole Wood has been drawing since she was four, when her grandfather taught her how to draw a landscape.
She works in pastel capturing her love of nature and trees in her drawings. While travelling around, she takes photos of ‘experiences’ – like driving down a beautiful tree lined road – from which she draws from.
“My work is about a strong admiration for trees. It encompasses the ability for a landscape to transport the viewer to a place which feels whimsical, otherworldly and calm,” said Nicole, “This body of work is inspired by my walks from the top of Spring Creek to Queen Mary Falls in Killarney. ”
The collection includes images of the drive, with a sealed road bordered by tall colourful trees. It includes work which looks at the depth of the forest, looking beyond to bordering open spaces and work which emphasise the dark areas of this place, thick with overgrowth and moss covered trees.
